City preparing for Arbor Day celebration

2009-03-20 / Community

The Simi Valley Tree Advisory Board will host its ninth annual Arbor Day program at 10 a.m. Sat., March 28 at Veterans Plaza in Rancho Tapo Community Park, 3700 Avenida Simi.

Cherry trees will be planted to posthumously honor local citizens Paul Molé, Walter Madrid and victims of the Metrolink train crash.

Fifthgrade classes will display artwork made by the children for an Arbor Day poster contest. Cherie Currie's Chainsaw Art Gallery will conduct a chainsaw wood-carving demonstration.

Refreshments will be served and a limited supply of 15-gallon trees, oak seedlings and compost will be distributed to attendees on a first-come, first-served basis.
