Former deputy sheriff says he'll run if Brooks doesn't
Union members prefer Dean over Carpenter
      Former chief deputy Geoff Dean has announced he will run for the post of Ventura County Sheriff—with one caveat. Dean, 52, said he may not run if current Sheriff Bob Brooks seeks a fourth term as the county's top cop in the 2010 election.

City preparing for Arbor Day celebration
      The Simi Valley Tree Advisory Board will host its ninth annual Arbor Day program at 10 a.m. Sat., March 28 at Veterans Plaza in Rancho Tapo Community Park, 3700 Avenida Simi. Cherry trees will be planted to posthumously honor local citizens Paul Molé, Walter Madrid and victims of the Metrolink train crash.

Golf event will benefit CPC, Sarah's House
      The Community Pregnancy Clinic and Sarah's House will host their second annual fundraising golf tournament Mon., April 27 at Moorpark Country Club, 11800 Championship Drive.       Tickets are available for The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley's 31st annual auction, "Alice in Wonderland," on Sat., June 6 at the clubhouse, 2850 Lemon Drive, Simi Valley. The event will feature such characters as Alice, the Rabbit, the Mad Hatter and the Queen of Hearts.
