Blames Republicans for state budget crisis

2009-03-06 / Letters

I am completely angry at Republican state legislators for their manufactured budget crisis.

It is doubtful I could ever vote for a single Republican candidate again in my lifetime, and this includes our local "nonpartisan" races. This pitiful hostage crisis, where every citizen of California was held ransom, is even more appalling as nationwide we all experience the shocking but predictable results of 30 years of breakthecitizens'-bank Friedman economics.

We are barely hanging on—if we're lucky—as many of our friends sink into the debt abyss. But the grandstanding goes on to the tired tune of "No, We Can't."

Ventura County schools will be robbed of more than $100 million because of this shameful ideology, this in a state that is already second lowest in the nation on student per capita spending.

Exactly what is the purity of an ideology that robs our children of a decent future with some modicum of opportunity?

I hope all of you who voted for Tony Strickland are reflective of the damage you have helped create and bring yourselves to make amends for his poor representation of the citizens of Ventura County.

You could start by calling his office at (916) 651-4019 and voicing your disappointment at his failure to protect our children's tomorrows. Brian Levy Simi Valley
