Kids learn magic of art through Abrakadoodle class

The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District will offer art classes, for children ages 1½ to 3, titled Abrakadoodle P.A.M. (Parent and Me) Twoosy Doodlers from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. for four Thursdays starting Feb. 19 and March 26 at the Sycamore Drive Community Center, 1692 Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley.

Tots will explore with paintbrushes and utilize Laura Numeroff's "If You Give" series of books.

Children will learn about texture, printmaking, collage, found objects and recycled materials.

The Abrakadoodle staff will provide instruction.

The cost is $40, with an $8 materials fee to the instructor.

•Abrakadoodle Digital Doodles is for children ages 5 to 12.

Youngsters will learn about famous artists, digital cameras, photography and photo illustration. All artwork will be framed with FrameDoodles.

The digital classes will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. or 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on four Thursdays, starting Feb. 19 and March 26. The cost is $48, with a $16 materials fee to the instructor.

•Kids on Canvas is for children ages 6 to 11. This program teaches painting techniques using safe, nontoxic acrylic paints and canvas paper, canvas board and stretched canvas. Painters will learn about styles and techniques of artists such as Pierre Renoir, Modrian, Jackson Pollock, and Modigliani.

The four-session classes will be from 3 to 4 p.m. beginning Feb. 17 and March 17.

The cost is $48, with a $16 materials fee to the instructor.

Abrakadoodle is a comprehensive art program that uses process art instruction to help students foster creativity through experimentation in new art techniques.
