Active Adult Programs
The Rancho Simi Recreation and park District presents the following programs for seniors.
Unless otherwise noted, activities take place at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 2900 Avenida Simi.

•Poker club. Dealer's choice, future tournaments. Club plays up to 10 different games per evening. Tuesdays ongoing, 6:30 to 9:45 p.m. Refreshment fee $1 per class.
•Books and movies. Discussion of the book "The Thin Man" by Dashiell Hammett, followed by the screening of the movie. Mon., Feb. 23 from 7 to 10 p.m. Cost $2.
•Ballroom dancing. Basic rhythms and variation of Latin dance, cha cha. Partners recommended but not required. Seven Tuesdays, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., March 3 through April 14. Fee $28.
•Tuesday Tappers. Bring tap shoes, wear comfortable clothes. Beginners: Seven Tuesdays, 2 to 3 p.m. Intermediate: 1 to 2 p.m. March 3 through April 14. Fee $35.
•Master Gardener series. Ventura County Master Gardeners presents program on gardening. Reservations requested for each class. Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m. except March 17, 1 to 2:30 p.m. March 3: pruning. March 10: roses. March 17: vegetables. March 24: irrigation and water conservation. Fees: $5 per class or $16 series.
•Oil painting media art class. Introduction to oil painting for students with no previous painting experience. Seven Wednesdays, 7 to 9 p.m., March 4 to April 15. Fee $30.
•Santa Anita horse races. Thurs., March 5. A professional handicapper will review the day's races. Luncheon with entree of the day, salad, dessert, coffee, tea. Tram tour of stable area, barn, paddock gardens. Bus leaves Simi Valley 10:45 a.m., return 7 p.m. All-inclusive fee of $64.
•Porcelain painting. Stepbystep painting process applied to clear China pieces purchased at first class. Seven Fridays, 1 to 4 p.m., March 6 through April 17. Fee $24.
•Basic ballet. No experience necessary. Ballet shoes recommended. Seven Mondays, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., March 9 through 20. Fee $35.
•Tai chi. Long form, Yang style. Seven Mondays, 7 to 8 p.m., March 9 through April 20. Fee $35.
