Kids learn magic of art through Abrakadoodle class
      The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District will offer art classes, for children ages 1½ to 3, titled Abrakadoodle P.A.M. (Parent and Me) Twoosy Doodlers from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. for four Thursdays starting Feb. 19 and March 26 at the Sycamore Drive Community Center, 1692 Sycamore Drive, Simi Valley.

Youths can join Naval Sea Cadets
      The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps has openings for a limited number of young people ages 11 to 17 to join the crew of Langley Division. The corps is composed of young people who have an interest in seamanship, the military or other seagoing careers.

      The Read at Moorpark College, a free monthly poetry reading, will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wed., Feb. 18 at the Moorpark College Library, third floor, 7075 Campus Road. The event will feature the poetry and music of Dottie Grossman and Michael Vlatkovich.

Elks to honor police, firefighters
      Simi Valley Elks Lodge 2492 will honor firefighters and law enforcement personnel with a dinner and appreciation program on Fri., Feb. 27 at the lodge, 1561 Kuehner Drive, Simi Valley. The event will begin with a flag presentation at 6:15 p.m. and a barbecue tri-tip and chicken dinner at 6:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will start at approximately 8 p.m.
