Simi theater club to hold 'Willy Wonka' auditions

Actors' Repertory Theatre of Simi will host auditions for Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka" from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sun., Feb. 22 and 7 to 10 p.m. Mon., Feb. 23 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave.

Callbacks are 1 to 5 p.m. Sat., Feb. 28.

Performance dates are April 18 through May 24.

This is not the "junior" version of the play, but the full version which features many new songs and an updated script. Lead children's roles will be double cast.

Auditions are by appointment only. Bring a headshot, resumé and sheet music prepared for the accompanist or an instrumental CD.

The director is David Daniels, with musical direction by Gary Poirot and choreography by Rebecca Castells.

All roles are open and include the following: Willy Wonka, 40 and up, baritone; Candy Man, 20 to 50, baritone; Phineous Trout/Man On The Street Reporter, 20 to 50, baritone; Charlie Bucket, 10 to 14, tenor; Mrs. Bucket, 35 to 50, mezzo; Mr. Bucket, 35 to 50, tenor; Grandpa Joe, 50 and up, baritone; Agustus Gloop, 10 to 15, tenor, German accent; Mrs. Gloop, 35 to 50, mezzo, German accent; Veruca Salt, 10 to 13, soprano, British accent; Mr. Salt, 35 to 50, British accent; Mike Teevee, 10 to 14, tenor; Mrs. Teevee, 35 to 50, mezzo; Violet Beuregarde, 10 to 14, southern accent; Mrs. Beuregarde, 35 to 50, southern accent; Grandpa George, Grandma Georgina, Grandma Josephine, 50 and up character actors; Oompa Loompas, Children of all ages, preferably under 5 feet tall, and adult ensemble, 16 and up, character actors.
