Ethics speaker will discuss government accountability

Rotary Club sponsoring onenight seminar at Simi High

The Rotary Club of Simi Sunset will hold an ethics seminar for high school students and the general public from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tues., Feb. 10 at Simi Valley High School, 5400 Cochran St.

Students, parents, teachers, business and community leaders are all welcome to attend.

Allen Westheimer of the U.S. Government Accountability Office is the keynote speaker. His presentation will be: "The GAO: Keeping the Government Accountable."

As principal auditor with the GAO, Westheimer has managed several of studies of the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and a number of other federal agencies.

Westheimer will speak on how the GAO is holding the government accountable for the $700-billion bailout and beyond. He will also discuss the GAO's audit of predatory lending practices and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

All Simi Valley high school students that attend are eligible to participate in a drawing to win one of two iPods and JBL OnStage iPod Dock, donated by the Rotary Club and JBL. Students must be present throughout the seminar to win.

Students in attendance will also be eligible to earn a $1,000 scholarship by participating in an essay contest about the seminar.
