Change to building code makes it easier for disabled to request home modifications

      Through the efforts of the Humane Society of Ventura County, more animals found their way into new homes in 2008 than during the previous year. The private nonprofit Ojai animal shelter reported overseeing 699 pet adoptions last year, up from 591adoptions in 2007.

      The Ventura County Fire Department recently received two grants from the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.
