The Simi Valley Historical Society is offering free training classes to prospective volunteers from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 13, 15, 20 and 22. All four classes must be attended for accreditation.

Training will take place at Strathearn Park, 137 Strathearn Place, Simi Valley.

The classroom education covers the Chumash Indian, Spanish Rancho and American periods of Simi Valley's history.

Volunteers participate in activities including preservation of artifacts, school programs, docent tours and special events. Service hours are flexible.
