The Women's Artistic Network has announced the winners of its inaugural poetry contest, which drew 140 entries nationwide.

Local winners are Kenneth Billau of Simi Valley for "The Naked Lady (humor)" and Joan D. Day of Camarillo for "The Return."

Billau and Day both earned honorable mention.

The contest is an opportunity to recognize aspiring poets and encourage their efforts.

WAN membership includes writers, poets, composers, playwrights, public speakers, photographers, artists, musicians and other women who want to promote the arts.

Most members are from Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley.
