Simi Boys & Girls Club to honor congressman

      The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley will honor U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Thousand Oaks) as the club's Humanitarian of the Year at a dinner scheduled for Sat., Jan. 10 at the Reagan Library, 40 Presidential Drive, Simi Valley.

Resident places in national poetry contest
      The Women's Artistic Network has announced the winners of its inaugural poetry contest, which drew 140 entries nationwide. Local winners are Kenneth Billau of Simi Valley for "The Naked Lady (humor)" and Joan D. Day of Camarillo for "The Return.

Grants available for nonprofit arts groups
      The Ventura County Community Foundation is accepting proposals for grants from local nonprofit arts organizations. The two-year grants cycle will distribute more than $90,000 through the foundation to the nonprofits. The Grants to Nonprofit Organizations Program will be administered in two cycles. The 2009 cycle will focus on visual, media and literary arts.

'Big Show' will feature paintings, sculptures
      The Ventura County Arts Council Visual Arts Committee will present "The Big Show" through Tues., Jan. 27 in the atrium lobby of the Hall of Administration at the County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura.
