Military physician deployed to Iraq, Airman graduates from specialized training

• Army National Guard Major Vernon B. Chavez was recently deployed to Iraq with the 996th Area Support Medical Company. He is a physician with nine years of military service.

Chavez is the son of Visitacion Chavez of Simi Valley.

• Air Force Senior Airman Robert C. Reiss has graduated from the Specialized Vehicle Maintenance Apprentice Course at the Naval Construction Training Center, Port Hueneme.

He is the son of Robert and Kasey Reiss of Simi Valley and a 2003 graduate of Royal High School.
