Local mom says her SUV is put to good use

I recently had an unpleasant encounter with a rather rude man at the gas station who seemed to be angry with me and all other women who drive SUVs.

I would like to let your readers know what goes on in my SUV on a daily basis. I make sure to carpool on a daily basis. I always keep at least one, if not two other vehicles off the road. I am a Girl Scout leader. Some of the girls in my troop would be unable to participate in meetings and activities were it not for my vehicle.

Some of the events they have been able to participate in have been feeding the homeless, wrapping Christmas gifts for less fortunate children and shipping care packages to the soldiers in Iraq.

I drive high school musicians and their instruments to entertain the elderly at the local senior center. I drive on school field trips, as the school district does not have money to pay for buses.

On any given day, my SUV may be full of donated toiletries and food for the homeless, snacks to be shipped to the soldiers, camping equipment for Boy Scouts or toys for sick children.

Before you assume that a woman driving an SUV is simply out for a pleasure drive, wasting gas, please consider that she might be trying to make your community a better place.
