Leadership academy accepting applications

The Ventura County Leadership Academy is accepting applications for participation in Class XIV for the 2008-09 program year. Participation is open to anyone living or working in Ventura County.

The academy was founded in 1994 with the mission of developing a diverse group of leaders whose actions enhance the quality of life throughout Ventura County. It is an initiative of the United Way of Ventura County.

The academy meets one or two days a month in venues throughout the county to study topics such as public safety, education, economic development, arts and culture, healthcare, nonprofits, agriculture and regional governance. Focus sessions include discussions with local practitioners who are experts in their fields.

The nine-month curriculum includes a trip to Sacramento to study the impact of state government on local issues.

For more information, visit www.vcunitedway.org or call executive director Susan Lefevre at (805) 485-6288, ext. 260.
