Pet abuse should not be tolerated by anyone

This is in reference to "Reader relates story of animal abuse," (Acorn, June 27).

This afternoon I was disturbed and sick in my stomach after reading that article.

My disgust was not only for the moron who was using the dog for target practice but for the officer who was called to investigate.

Apparently the officer had contacted the Humane Society, but, after observing the dog and inspecting the backyard, he canceled the request because there was no evidence.

Did this officer expect to see pools of blood or broken bones, or was he expecting a written statement from the dog in order to declare abuse?

Since when is using an animal for pitching practice considered an okay thing to do? You don't have to be a dog expert to see when an animal is frightened and in distress. In my view, the officer is just as much at fault as the moron who did the abuse.

According to Williams, the concerned neighbor who tried to help, the officer didn't even file a report. This, to me, is unacceptable.

Thank you, Ms. Williams- we need more people like you. The next time, take a video or a photo.
