Sail away at UCLA extension
UCLA Extension will off two internationally certified courses in sailing small boats.
Instructor for both courses is Paul J. Miller, director of the California Sailing Academy Coast Guard School and former U.S. Naval Academy sailing coach.
•Sailing I: Practice and Theory will be from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays, June 30 and July 14 and 21 at the Extension Lindbrook Center, 10920 Lindbrook Drive, Westwood Village, Los Angeles.
On-the-water sessions begin Monday, July 12 at the California Sailing Academy Coast Guard School, 14025 Panay Way, Marina Del Rey.
The class will give beginning sailors the skills needed to command an up to 25-foot sailboat in light to moderate wind and sea conditions.
The course includes weekly classroom sessions and onthewater classes which may be taken on weekdays or weekends.
The course fee is $375.
•Sailing II: Practice and Theory will be from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays, Aug. 18 and 25 and Sept. 8 at the Extension Lindbrook Center, 10920 Lindbrook Drive, Westwood Village, Los Angeles.
On-the-water sessions begin Saturday, Aug. 23 at the California Sailing Academy Coast Guard School, 14025 Panay Way, Marina Del Rey.
The course gives intermediate small-boat sailors the necessary skills to command sailboats of up to 30 feet in open waters.
The on-the-water sessions may be taken on weekdays or weekends.
