Seniors win scholarships

Each year, the Simi Valley Education Foundation grants scholarships to five graduating high school students so that they can attend college, technical or vocational school. One student is chosen from each of the four local high schools and one from Moorpark College.

This year's winners are: Sandra Camarena, Apollo High School; Kimberly Tomas, Royal High School; Chelsea Carroll, Santa Susana High School; Heather Cook, Simi Valley High School; and Suzanne Ali, Moorpark College.

In addition, the foundation also awarded twoyear scholarships to Moorpark College to three seniors from Simi Valley Unified School District.

This endowment program was established to honor the wishes of the original donor to provide community college scholarships for students who cannot afford to fund their own education.

This year's recipients are: Kelli Hailey, Apollo High School; Casey Jordan, Apollo High School; and Santiago Jiminez, Royal High School.

A foundation board member presented each award winner with a check at their school's senior award night.
