Lyons named head of environmental services
Lyons, who served as deputy director/city planner for the environmental services department for the last nine years, will replace Al Boughey, who recently retired after 12 years of service with the city. "Peter has worked well with the City Council and the Planning Commission for a number of years and he has the confidence of the city's decision makers, the development community, and the department staff," Sedell said. "With his background and knowledge, the continuity in management will serve the city and its residents well. "Under his leadership we expect to maintain the City Council's focus on planning principals that improve the quality of our community, offering diverse and balanced housing opportunities, and ensuring the safety of our structures," he said. During his tenure as city planner, Lyons assisted with the development of several large projects, including the Simi Valley Town Center, the Big Sky/ Sand Canyon development, the Marr Ranch/Wildhorse Canyon development, the Parker Ranch development and the El Paseo Simi project. Lyons also managed an extensive update of the city's Zoning and Development Code and is currently managing an update to the Simi Valley General Plan. Lyons has previous experience with the city of Rosemead- where he served as director of planning, housing and code enforcement, and the city of La Puente and Washington County, Oregon. He holds an MBA from the American Graduate School of International Business Management and a bachelor's degree in urban studies from the University of Oregon. The environmental services department includes three divisions- planning, housing and special projects, and building and safety. The department has an operating budget of $6.6 million and 67 employees. |
