Education foundation awards funds to Apollo and Sinaloa

Board members from the Simi Valley Education Foundation recently presented Matching School Fund Checks for the 2007-2008 school year to Apollo High School and Sinaloa Middle School.

Apollo High School received a check for $2,540, the actual match from the foundation. The money raised and matched will go towards the purchase of materials that will build creativity and enhance writing skills.

Those attending the presentation included Allan C. Mann, Simi Valley Education Foundation president; Chris Sullivan, Apollo teacher; Apollo Principal Tracy Rohlfing; Mary Beth Belloti, Apollo teacher; and foundation board members Laura Berger, Shireen Knudsen, Kevin Underwood, Brian Iverson, Karen Stewart, Cathy Carlson and Paul Goodnough.

Sinaloa Middle School received a check for $12,200 that corresponds to a $6,100 match from the foundation. The money raised and matched will go towards library improvements.

Mann, Sinaloa Principal Leslie Frank, board members and parents attended the presentation.

The goal of the Matching School Funds Program is to stimulate greater parent involvement in the education process and expand the volunteer base at each school, while helping to fund additional programs/improvements at each school.

The foundation will match up to $7 per student at each of the secondary schools in the Simi Valley Unified School District.

The money raised at each of the schools comes from parentinvolved fundraising events and not PTSA or other existing programs.
