Youth Council wants new members
Students can get their political feet wet

Simi Valley residents between the ages of 13 and 18 may apply for membership on the Simi Valley Youth Council.

Applications are being accepted for oneyear terms of office with meetings beginning in September.

The Youth Council is comprised of 24 middle and high school students who serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council on issues relating to youth. Members learn about and participate in city government, conduct special projects and advise the City Council on the needs and concerns of the city's youth.

Each year the Youth Council hosts a Youth Summit designed to encourage youth to contribute to their community through volunteerism and service.

Youth Council representatives provide monthly activities reports at City Council meetings.

The Youth Council meets for approximately one hour at 5 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month during the regular school year in the City Hall community room, 2929 Tapo Canyon Road. The meetings are open to the public.

Application forms are available at City Hall, the Development Services Building, the Simi Valley Library and local middle and high schools. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, May 7 at the Development Services Building, 3855-A Alamo Street.
