Resident returns home to find burglar inside A woman was assaulted in her home by a burglar at 12:57 p.m. on April 11. The victim, 33, of Simi Valley, and a friend arrived at the victim's home in the 2500 block of Canterbury Lane and apparently interrupted a burglary in progress, according to police reports. As the victim entered the kitchen, a male intruder punched the woman on the head and knocked her to the ground. He then picked up a chair, struck her with it and ran out of the house. The victim's friend called 911. Officers, along with a K-9 unit and a helicopter, searched the neighborhood but did not locate the suspect. The incident happened close to Pinecrest and Simi Valley High schools. School officials were notified. Officers arrived on the campuses, but did not find the attacker. The schools were not placed on lock down status. The assailant was described as a male in his teens, with brown hair. The woman suffered bruising and swelling to the face from the attack.
