Those interested in leading a CROP Hunger Walk Team should attend the Recruiter Rally on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the United Methodist Church of Simi Valley, 2394 Erringer Road. Attendees will receive information about the walk, including walker donation envelopes and maps. CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Six CROP Hunger Walks are held throughout Ventura County each year. This is the first year for a CROP Hunger Walk in Simi Valley. CROP is sponsored by Church World Service, founded in 1946, a cooperative ministry that provides sustainable selfhelp, disaster relief and refugee assistance to 80 countries, including the United States. Church World Service held the first CROP Hunger Walk in 1969, when 1,000 people in Bismarck, ND raised $25,000 to help stop hunger. Currently, 2,000 communities across the U.S. sponsor the walks.
