County fire department puts out call for volunteers

The Ventura County Fire Department is seeking persons for the Volunteers in Prevention program, which assists with a variety of community education tasks and helps the department during major emergencies.

The VIP program will conduct a volunteer orientation from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 3.

Those interested need to submit a volunteer application and have a background check cleared through the program prior to attending orientation.

Volunteers teach fire and falls prevention to senior citizens, assist with a Fire Safety house for children, staff information booths at community events and translate talks given by a fire inspector to Spanishspeaking audiences.

Volunteers are also needed to identify senior citizens in need of smoke detectors and assist with detector installations.

Department needs include on-call volunteers who can drive large trucks and those who can stock and pull Multiple Casualty Unit trailers during emergency situations.

Positions for office support may be available on occasion.

For more information, please call the volunteer coordinator at (805) 389-9745 or e-mail joncee.kohls@ventura.org or visit www.fire.countyofventura.org.
