Protect the greenbelt from further building Greenbelt? What a joke. If SOAR and the county can't prevent Cornerstone Church from its proposed heinous blight on our supposedly protected Tierra Rejada greenbelt, just whose public interest are they protecting? Wake up Simi Valley and Moorpark, because if you don't, the next time you drive down Tierra Rejada Road you are going to be in a construction mess and traffic jam similar to those you now face on the 118 in Simi and the 23 between Moorpark and Thousand Oaks. And it gets worse. If Cornerstone is allowed to bypass a vote of the people by claiming the Religious Land Use Act, you will soon be faced not only with traffic congestion, but also with a huge blight on the Tierra Rejada countryside. Cornerstone plans to use 60 to 140 acres of the greenbelt to erect seven buildings, including a 5,000person amphitheater and a 2,500space parking lot. Other buildings will include a 1,000person multipurpose hall and a Bible college. Thank you to last week's Acorn article which pointed out that the Ventura County Planning Department bent over backwards- not once, but an incredible three times- to allow Cornerstone to complete its very late application, and then actually gave them a twomonth extension. I would like to know who in the planning department attends Cornerstone Church. Perhaps an investigation of the planning department's procedures and motives is in order. If one of the reasons you love Ventura County is because of its rural beauty and open spaces, you should be protesting this land grab to the Ventura County Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors before it's too late. Call the planning department at (805) 6542488 or (805) 6542451, and contact Peter Foy, who is the Supervisor for District 4, which includes Simi Valley and Moorpark. His number is (805) 955-2300.
