Nothing wrong with church's desire to expand I am puzzled. Perhaps one of the other Acorn readers can help? There seems to be a bit of controversy and some newsworthiness to the Cornerstone Church expanding. An organization that brings people to realize the fact that they have less than 100 years on this planet. An organization that helps people think about their eternity. An organization that is a public interest and is dedicated solely to serving people. One church of many that has to meet the needs of a population growing enough to halt traffic. I've lived in Simi Valley for more than 15 years. Every time I turn around there's another housing development popping up covering our beautiful western mountains. Poof! They just magically appear. Look around. Simi Valley is starting to look like the San Fernando Valley or Santa Clarita in overpopulation and traffic. Where is that smaller city charm? If a church or synagogue is expanding to meet the needs of all these good people, well good for them. Let them pray. Don't prohibit them from having structures to pray in. In these days and times, if we're not praying a whole lot, in groups, then we're just not paying attention. Freedom of religion is our right, one which I personally served in two branches of the United States military to protect. Be fair, boys and girls. The next time a housing development appears from investors with infinite wealth, do you expect them not to have a place to pray? Let Cornerstone succeed without the city or the papers impeding of the efforts of the faithful. Heck, I don't even go to Cornerstone. I go to a smaller church. It's just my preference, but Cornerstone and other churches are a necessity for our citizens. Churches have a great need to meet. Didn't you notice a whole new city's worth of 900 houses snuck in north of the mall? By the way, I got my zoning clearance for the little backyard shed last week, as required. I had to move down though, as the city planning counter was monopolized by huge blueprints of plans for more housing tracts. Simi Valley, what are you doing this Sunday? Do you have a place to go with others to pray? Guy Nohrenberg Simi Valley |
