B&G Club hands out hardware
Annual recognition luncheon held

The Boys & Girls Club of Simi Valley presented awards and installed a new board of directors at the annual Recognition Luncheon held on Feb. 22 at the Posada Royale Hotel in Simi Valley.

The club honored Eric Weigel, 15, a sophomore at Santa Susana High School, as the Youth of the Year 2007.

Eric recently moved with his family from San Diego to Simi Valley and has been involved with the club since he joined last summer. He completed more than 200 hours of community service in the club's Leader-In-Training program.

After high school, Eric hopes to attend MIT for a degree in computer engineering and then become a computer engineer.

Employee of the Year: Jackie Caldwell, senior office administrator.

Business of the Year: Citibank Sycamore Plaza.

Volunteer of the Year: Otto Austel.

President Award: Sally Grant, Volt Workforce Solutions.

Shining Star Award: Mary Bibb, city planning commissioner.

North Star Award: The Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley.

Rookie of the Year Award: Caroline Gibson, Posada Royale Hotel & Suites and Karl Orlowski, Edward Jones.

Special Recognition Award: Rancho Simi Department of Parks & Recreation.

Unsung Hero Award: All American Audio/Visual.

Event chairs: Spring golf tournament, Alex Gandel; 29th annual auction, Bob Huber and Deb Holler; Texas Hold'em poker, Fred Thomas.
