Arts center holding auditions for 'The Full Monty'
Play is based on Oscar-winning film about husbands turned strippers

Auditions for the musical "The Full Monty," with book by Terrance McNally and music and lyrics by David Yazbeck, will be held from 2 to 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, March 8 and from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, March 9 at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, 3050 Los Angeles Ave.

The show will run from April 19 through May 27 at the arts center.

The production is directed by Fred Helsel and David Ralphe, with musical direction by Gary Poirot and choreography by Seth Kamenow.

The cast includes six lead character men (ages 20s to 50+, including one African American), seven character roles for women (ages 20s to 50+), one teenage boy who can play 12 to 14 years old (no singing or dancing required), four additional men with speaking roles (no singing or dancing required), and one Chippendalestyle dancer (speaking/dancing role, no singing). Some doubling may be possible.

Actors auditioning for singing roles should come prepared with a song.

There will be a movement combination and readings from the script.

The play is based on the Oscar-winning film and tells the story of five unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, N.Y., who come up with a way to make some quick cash to tide over their families.

To do so, they become malestrippers like the ones their wives and girlfriends pay to watch on their "girls' nights out."
