Wellness Community selects new board members

Business leaders Tom Crowell, David McFadden, Stephen L. Spector and Brian Layfield were appointed the 2008 officers of The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura's board of directors.

"We are extremely fortunate to have the support of these talented individuals and a dynamic group of officers to lead our board as we work to sustain our ongoing programs and realize our goals for the future," said Suzanne Drace, organization president.

The new board chair, Crowell, is vice president and global chief information officer for Dole Food Company, headquartered in Westlake Village, and a three-year veteran of the Wellness board.

He first helped with information technology tools before serving as vice chair and this year's chair. Three of his relatives died of cancer. The new vice chair, McFadden, is associate director of medical affairs for Amgen Inc. with a 30-year career as an oncology pharmacist specializing in the care and treatment of cancer patients. He joined The Wellness Community's board in 2005. McFadden's father died of colon cancer.

Three-year board member and continuing secretary, Spector is senior vice president and general counsel for the Macerich Company, owner of The Oaks shopping center in Thousand Oaks.

Spector's father died of lung cancer, and his wife is a survivor of breast cancer.

Brian Layfield, a CPA and CFO of First Data Merchant Services, has brought more than 20 years of senior financial experience to his position as board treasurer and will continue to serve in that role.

Both of his parents have had cancer.

The Wellness Community provides support and education for people affected by cancer at more than 100 locations worldwide.
