Rescue group receives large donation

Canine Adoption and Rescue League of Ventura, a nonprofit organizations run almost entirely by volunteers, recently received a $500,000 grant from the Annenberg Foundation to support the center's capital campaign.

The grant will be used to assist in providing shelter to dogs in need of homes. In 2005 the league purchased a kennel in a suitable location for an animal sanctuary and boarding facility that generates income to help support the league's annual sanctuary costs.

The intake and assessment center at the sanctuary will be named the Annenberg Intake and Assessment Center.

The league hosts adoption days for dogs on Saturdays in Simi Valley.

The organization has placed more than 2,200 homeless dogs in pre-screened secure homes.
