Can relate to frustration over tree removal I read the letter from Bren Mercado and understand her frustration. I, too, have recently had issues with a tree in front of my home that is city owned but overhangs into my driveway. The pods are huge and have caused more than $7,000 worth of damage to my cars, which are parked in the driveway. I contacted the city numerous times by phone with no response. I finally went to their offices and spoke to Kurt Dahlren. After several weeks of "red tape," someone was sent out to investigate, and I was told the tree was not scheduled for trimming. When I told them this was unacceptable, I asked that the tree be removed because the damage will happen every year. I was told it would not be removed and would only be trimmed back so as not to change the symmetry of the tree. Can you believe it? My cars are being damaged by this tree, and their only concern is the "look" of the tree. The trimming that was performed did not help, and the pods continue to fall in my driveway. I filed a claim against the city and, of course, it was denied. In essence the letter said if I did not like the decision that I should get an attorney. I have never been so frustrated. What rights do we have as taxpaying homeowners? I think we need our voices heard and make some changes. Don Calhoun Simi Valley |
