Activities offered to seniors The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District presents the following classes for seniors age 50 and up. All programs take place at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi. Advanced registration is requested for all events. For more information or to sign up, call (805) 484-4400 or go to www.rsrpd.org or register in person at the senior center. •Yasue McCormick will lead Ikbana II, a class in Japanese flower arranging, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5. Participants will use fresh flowers, dried branches and leaves to create flower arrangements. Attendees should bring pruning or gardening scissors and $20 for a material fee to the first class. The registration fee is $5. •Kit Hanes leads a Hawaiian dance class from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturdays, March 8 through April 19. Class does not meet on March 22. Participants will learn hand gestures and the history behind the dances. The class fee is $24. •Rebecca Reimer will teach how to make a tea towel or tea cozy for tea parties from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 15. Sewing machines are provided. The class fee is $5 plus a $15 materials fee due to the instructor when class begins. •Maria Covarrubias demonstrates a step-by-step painting process on clear china ceramic pieces from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays, March 28 through May 16. The final product will be a piece of artwork suitable for display. Registration is $40 and participants may purchase china pieces at the first meeting. |
