Simi Leo Club has strong showing The Simi Valley Leo Club won first place in a teambuilding exercise at the ninth annual Lions Club International Youth Outreach Symposium in Modesto, Calif., on Feb. 1 and 2. Young adults ages 15 to 21 from across the state attended the symposium. Many of the attendees are members of Leo clubs, youth organizations sponsored by local Lions clubs. The symposium was held in conjunction with the Lions Multiple District Four Convention, attended by Lions Club members from all over California. The symposium theme was "Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leader." The event featured speakers on a variety of topics and a community service project involving sorting and cleaning used eyeglasses. Special guests at the event included International President Mahendra Amarasuriya from Sri Lanka, International Director Dana Biggs and the council of governors headed by Bill Dunlevy of Ventura Downtown Lions Club. The officials recognized the newly formed Simi Valley Leo Club. According to District 4-A3 Youth Outreach Chair Elvie Marfil of Simi Valley, involving young people in Lions-sponsored activities is an ongoing commitment at the local, national and international levels of Lions Clubs. |
