Youth basketball league holding sign-ups

Sign-ups are underway for the Simi Valley Family YMCA Junior Lakers Basketball League for boys and girls ages 8 through 16.

The spring season, which includes practices and eight-week interleague play, runs from March 25 through May 18.

No tryouts are necessary, and everyone participates. Each child will be placed on a team in one of three Y-Winners age divisions: 8 through 10, 11 through 13 and 14 through 16.

Practices and games will take place at the Seventh-day Adventist Church gym at 1636 Sinaloa Road, Simi Valley. Practices are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays. Games are between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Sundays. Y-Winner teammates receive values-based instruction while in a competitive program. The program is competitive, but the focus is on having fun.

Program participants each receive a uniform and an endofseason trophy.

League cost is $65 for facility members and $130 for nonmembers.

Sign-ups after March 16 will cost an extra $25.
