Community Council set to meet on Valentine's Day

The Simi Valley Community Council will meet Thursday, Feb. 14 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the International House of Pancakes, 2525 Erringer Road, Simi Valley.

The guest speaker is Mary Ellen Collins, executive director of United Parents, a grass-roots organization serving families with children who are involved with or need mental health support, services, information and advocacy.

The meeting is open to the public and the lunch is no-host. Following a short business meeting and guest speaker presentation, members and guests will talk about upcoming events and the needs of the organizations they represent.

The Community Council, established in the early 1970s, brings together agencies, organizations, service clubs and individuals to coordinate the special events of each participating group, to foster volunteer service and to educate its membership on the programs and services in Simi Valley. Membership in the council is $10 per year.

Russian-trained painter will offer demonstration

Artist Elena Roche will conduct a painting demonstration at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

Roche learned academic drawing and painting in Russia. She will paint a still life in oil at the demonstration.

The event is sponsored by the Simi Valley Art Association. A donation of $7 will be requested to attend.

Bowls of Hope Project in search of volunteers

Many Mansions' annual Bowls of Hope Project will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6 at the Vineyards in Simi Valley.

The organization is seeking individuals to help coordinate the event as committee chairpersons in the areas of sponsorships and cash donations, ticket sales, merchant market, bowls, art show, and soup and bread donations.
