Award-winning watercolorist will demonstrate craft

The Simi Valley Art Association presents a painting demonstration and talk by watercolorist Pong Apinyavat at 7p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 at the Simi Valley Library, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road.

Apinyavat has garnered numerous awards in Southern California shows for his watercolor landscapes.

A donation of $5 is requested by the nonprofit association.

Tire Pros, Youth Soccer League make donations

The Simi Valley Youth Soccer League recently received a large donation in funds and equipment from Simi Valley Tire Pros and Uniroyal Tire as part of a longstanding program designed by Uniroyal to support youth soccer across the nation.

In an effort to give back to victims of the Tire Pros shooting in October, Simi Valley Youth Soccer donated the $150 fundraiser check they received to the victims and their families.

"We have been collecting donations for the victims since late October," said Tia Jones of the Simi Valley Youth Soccer League.

Now in its eighth year as a major sponsor of youth soccer, Uniroyal and its dealers have provided 735,500 free soccer balls to soccer families across America and have donated a total of $10 million in funds and equipment.

University Women will host interbranch lunch

The Simi Valley Branch of University Women will be hosting the Interbranch Council luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12 at the Sunset Hills Country Club, 4155 Erbes Road in Thousand Oaks.

The speaker will be Elva Vollbrecht, founding member of the AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund.
