Christmas tree pickup offered through Jan. 9
Waste hauler will recycle trees for no cost
Waste Management of Ventura County will collect and recycle Christmas trees from Waste Management residential service customers during a twoweek period, Dec. 26 to Jan. 9.
Trees will be processed into mulch for gardens and fuel for electricity.
The free service is part of a larger effort to minimize the amount of waste associated with the holidays. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, more than 33 million real Christmas trees are sold in North America every year, and tree recycling helps return a renewable resource back to the environment.
To ensure pickup, all ornaments, stands, tinsel and lights must be removed. Flocked trees will not be accepted.
Residents can cut trees in half and place them in the greenwaste container or place the trees at curbside on the regularly scheduled service day.
The Simi Valley Landfill is offering free Christmas tree drop-off at 2801 Madera Road from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday from Dec. 26 to Jan. 16.
Trash and recycling services will be delayed one day due to the Christmas and New Year's holidays.
