The Simi Valley Unified School District board of education approved the 2009-10 school calendar during Tuesday's regular meeting.

No major changes were made to the calendar, said Don Gaudioso, assistant superintendent of personnel services. Start and end dates are virtually the same as in 2008-09, and students have the same time off for winter and spring recesses.

The 2009-10 school year begins on Wed., Aug. 26 and ends Fri., June, 11.

The following are days off:

•Sept. 7, 2009—Labor Day •Sept. 28, 2009—Rosh Hashanah

•Nov. 11, 2009—Veterans Day

•Nov. 25-27, 2009— Thanksgiving holiday break

•Dec. 21, 2009-Jan. 4, 2010—winter recess

•Jan. 18, 2010—Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

•Jan. 25, 2010—secondary semester break day/elementary teacher day (no classes)

•Feb. 15, 2010— President's Day

•March 12, 2010—secondary staff development/elementary prep day (no classes)

•April 2-9, 2010—spring recess

•May 31, 2010—Memorial Day
