Spark of Love toy drive starts tomorrow with kickoff event
The Simi Valley Family YMCA Adventure Guides and the Ventura County Fire Department will kick off the 12th annual Spark of Love toy drive from 1 to 4 p.m. tomorrow, Dec. 13 at the Y, 3200 Cochran St., Simi Valley.
Families that bring an unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more will be able to participate in rock wall climbing and moon bounces, listen to carolers and visit Santa. They also receive a coupon for $5 off a Christmas tree sold on site at the Y's Christmas tree lot.
A Ventura County Fire Department ladder truck will be on hand to collect the toys. The toy drive collects new toys and sports equipment for community children in need. Last year, more than a half a million toys were collected and distributed locally.
Nonperishable food and cash donations are also accepted.
This is the first time the YMCA Adventure Guides has participated in the Spark of Love. The guides are parents and their 5 to 9yearold children.
Other drop-off points for the toy drive are YMCA child care facilities at local elementary schools and preschool at Royal High School, the Simi Valley United Methodist Church and Ford Graphics in Thousand Oaks.
Toys will be collected through Dec. 24.
