Habitat families move in
Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County said this week that the three Simi Valley single mothers who were waiting to take possession of their new houses at Royal and Sequoia avenues have officially moved in.
Each family received the key to their new home on Dec. 5.
The three houses were sponsored by Starbucks, Moorpark/ Conejo Valley Realtors with 1L2L Foundation, and Conejo Valley Interfaith Coalition.
Farmers Insurance donated $15,000 and homeowners insurance to each family for a year. Pastor Melissa Scott of Los Angeles also donated $8,000.
Additional support came from the city of Simi Valley, Southern California Edison and The Gas Company, who worked on the final details to move the families in as quickly as possible.
Habitat has given qualified families an opportunity to own a home with a zero-interest mortgage for more than 25 years in Ventura County. Families make mortgage payments based on income. Families must live or work in the community the home is being built in and have low-income and low-debt.
Additional qualifications are required to become a Habitat homeowner and can been reviewed at www.habitatventura.org.
