Supervisor clarifies his position on property rights
      On Nov. 14, Santa Susana Knolls resident Gary Selvaggio wrote to the Simi Valley Acorn asking me to clarify my support regarding neighborhood integrity. He wrote that I "spoke out supporting Tierra Rejada residents' desire to manage their own neighborhood land-use issues.

      I would like to respond to Steve Jones' letter published last week which derided those who would wish to battle the injustice contained in the recently passed Proposition 8. Before 1967, marriage between black and white people was illegal. 1967, in relative terms, is practically yesterday.

      It seems to me as though people are putting way too much emphasis on Mr. Obama's color, as if that will make him better or worse as a president. The citizens who vote for nominees simply because they are black or white, male or female, or Republican or Democrat should be ashamed of themselves.

Majority vote doesn't outweigh the Constitution
      I protest the idea that the outcome of the popular vote precludes the need for continued discussion about Proposition 8. The argument that judicial review of the proposition and its legality usurps democratic process is based on a flawed understanding of our nation's system of protections for every citizen.

      Shame on you. I found your editorial and editorial cartoon in the Dec. 5 issue appalling. We are all aware of a dismal financial backdrop. However, I do not agree with your position that any police officer should feel guilty about accepting the raise.
