Resident arrested and charged with passing bad checks in Simi
      Donald Plehn, 25, of Simi Valley was arrested Dec. 1 and charged with passing fraudulent checks to businesses throughout Simi Valley. He was arrested after police set up a property purchase sting.

City attorney says he's looking into Williamson's campaign contributions
      The Simi Valley city attorney's office is looking into claims that Councilmember Barbra Williamson may have violated campaign finance rules during the 2008 election season, city officials said last week. "We are looking into it," City Attorney David Hirsch said.

Meeting to address public transit
      The Ventura County Transportation Commission will host a public hearing in Moorpark on Jan. 7 to get local input concerning transportation and to identify transit service needs for residents throughout Ventura County. Comments from senior citizens, people with disabilities and individuals with low income are especially needed, according to county transportation leaders.

Prize-winning poodle competing in national competition
     HIGH FASHION HOUND— Simi Valley resident Charlene Smutny and her miniature poodle, DKL's Dulcet Moody Blues, aka Dusty, will be among the contenders in this weekend's AKC/Eukanuba National Championship in Long Beach Dec. 13 and 14. Smutny and Dusty will compete against not only the top show dogs in the country but also a slate of the finest specimens from around the world. The invitation-only event is the largest prize-money dog show in the world, with cash and prizes awarded totaling more than $225,000.       The Simi Valley Education Foundation will honor the Lew Roth Award recipients of 2008 at the annual dinner at 6 p.m. Fri., Feb. 6 at the Grand Vista Hotel in Simi Valley. The foundation was formed in 1989 by Lew Roth, a Simi Valley school board trustee for 23 years.
