Prop 8 battle could cost state millions in lawsuits
The people of California had already decided eight years ago, with the passage of Proposition 22, that marriage in our state will be defined as between "one man and one woman."
Then four of the state's seven Supreme Court justices, Ronald George, Carlos R. Moreno, Joyce L. Kennard and Kathryn Mickle Werdegard, decided that they would redefine the word "marriage" as they felt it should be recognized. These activist judges obviously value their own beliefs over the will of the voters of California.
This socalled samesex marriage has cost the state of California millions of dollars between both sides on the now infamous Proposition 8 in many different ways.
Those against Prop 8 claim that the churches put up an unprecedented amount of money. However, there are also celebrities, such as Ellen DeGeneres, that put up at least $100,000 and constantly plugged the importance of a defeat to Prop 8 on her television show.
In a time when the state budget is in such a crisis, how could these homosexual organizations possibly consider such a costly state setback and force their selflessness views upon all of California's traditional families?
Yes on 8 means the state will now only recognize male-female marriages, "regardless of when or where they were performed."
By having these four court justices rewrite a law opens the door for multiple lawsuits being filed, and who will ultimately foot the bill? The California taxpayers.
Yes, that's all of us Californians. We didn't ask for this, so why should we be paying for what (was done by) these judges who no longer uphold the standards of morality, decency and freedom which came from the common law implemented by our Founding Fathers? Therefore, I feel the judges who created this debate are really to blame.
We Californians need to unite against this absolutely ridiculous mistake made by our state justices by recognizing who we are voting for in future elections.
We must understand what the candidate stands for and their values before electing them to any office. Steve Jones Simi Valley
