Highlanders more than happy to silence doubters
Expectations not as high for Royal girls' basketball team as in years past

      The girls' basketball squad at Royal High has a new look this season, but the team still has the same goal as in years past—a Marmonte League championship. Two seasons ago, RHS shared a league title with Newbury Park and Moorpark. Last season, the Highlanders played even better by going 22-5 overall and 13-1 in league to earn an outright title.

Chivas USA holding tryouts in Simi next week
      Chivas USA of Major League Soccer will conduct a pair of tryout sessions Fri., Dec. 12 at Rancho Santa Susana Park in Simi Valley. Chivas USA coaches and scouts will be in attendance looking for players for both the Youth Team (18 and under) and First Team (18 and up).

      Ventura County Fusion's Premier Development League men's team is seeking soccer players from the Ventura County area who believe they are good enough to play professionally. Players are needed for Fusion's 2009 season roster and to play in winter exhibitions against visiting professional clubs.
