SVHS alumni hoops game on tap next week

Before the Simi Valley High boys' basketball team attempts to defend its Marmonte League title this season, the program will be holding its seventh annual alumni legends game and event on Wed., Nov. 26.

The night's scheduled list of events includes games between the alumni and current junior varsity and varsity squads, a 3-point shootout, raffles, a silent auction, an alumni reception and the honoring of former Pioneer Marty Wilson. Wilson is now an assistant coach at Pepperdine.

"I had the privilege of playing with Marty when he was a senior," Simi Valley head coach Christian Aurand said. "He's a class act and was an unbelievable player, athlete and competitor."

Aurand said his favorite part about the event is seeing all the familiar faces.

"It's a celebration of how our program got where it is today," Aurand said.

"The cool part is the former players dressing in the locker room before the game and talking with the current players about what the program meant to them."

Admission for the event at the SVHS gym is $5 for adults and $2 for students and children. The events begin at 5 p.m.
