Strickland appears poised for victory over Jackson
Republican Tony Strickland continues to build on his lead over Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson for the 19th District State Senate seat.
The 19th District extends from Port Hueneme and Camarillo to Moorpark, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks and the northwest corner of Los Angeles County, including Santa Clarita and Stevenson Ranch. The district also includes most of Santa Barbara County.
As of Thursday, Strickland was edging out Jackson by about 1,700 votes. The Los Angeles County elections office, which has Strickland ahead by 4,365 votes (16,294 votes to 11,929), still reports 185,000 uncounted ballots. But only a fraction of Los Angeles County residents vote in that particular race, because the 19th district only covers the northwestern corner of the county.
In Ventura County, Strickland is also ahead, climbing to 126,922 votes over Jackson's 115,477. There are at least 14,000 provisional ballots still out, according to the Ventura County elections office.
Jackson is still ahead in her home county of Santa Barbara, holding 71,650 votes to Strickland's 57,561. There are also uncounted votes in Santa Barbara County.
Neither camps have claimed victory.
The voted will be certified by Dec. 2, when county officials must complete the election count.
