What is entertaining about reenacting war?
      I cannot understand the fixation some people have with the need to relive something as catastrophic, painful, agonizing and heartbreaking as war. Is it not enough the suffering and loss that were experienced during the actual event, that some feel the need to remind everyone of it again?

Between students and teachers, money runs thin
      In response to the idea of a $100 donation from every household for the schools, I think it is a start, but not enough. I have been a permanent substitute special ed aide for about a year. I have had my hours cut and just received notice that I still will not be hired as a permanent employee, only as a sub.

Encouraging the community to take part in food drive
      Simi Valley is a great place to live, for many reasons. One aspect that keeps the community strong is the number of nonprofit organizations established here to serve residents and families. This Sat., Nov. 15, two of the most important community organizations have scheduled events that all Simi Valley residents should participate in.

Supervisor has only kept part of his word
      We all applaud Supervisor Foy's efforts to make it easier for East County residents to access county services. The supervisor kept his word on this issue and deserves our thanks. Yet the residents of The Knolls, Box Canyon, Lake Manor, Tierra Rejada Valley and Somis are concerned about how the supervisor intends to keep his word on another, more important issue.

Don't buy fur this holiday season
      This year when people shop for their winter gear, I hope they will keep in mind the unthinkable suffering imposed on animals so that they can have fur lining their boots, coats, gloves and slippers. In this day and age, with all the synthetic fibers available, it is barbaric to continue the practice of skinning animals for their fur.
