Thanksgiving deadlines at the Acorn
      The Thanksgiving holiday changes the deadlines for the Fri., Nov. 28 editions of the Acorn . Letters to the editor and press releases for the Nov. 28 editions must be received by noon, Thurs., Nov. 20, which is also the deadline to reserve real estate ads. Display ads must be reserved by noon, Fri., Nov. 21.

Crime Prevention Task Force is accepting new members
      The Simi Valley City Council is accepting applications from residents to serve on the city's Community Crime Prevention Task Force. The task force was formed to review crime statistics and trends and provide recommendations and strategies for local crime prevention through enforcement, education and engaging the community in collaborative efforts.

      Fresh off her victory in Nov. 4's City Council race, Councilmember Barbra Williamson has responded defiantly to claims of campaign finance misgivings, saying that she's not done anything wrong.

Simi Valley street named in honor of veterans
      A city driveway received special treatment last week when the Simi Valley City Council decided to name it in honor of those who have served their country in the armed forces. The driveway of the city's Development Services Building, the DMV and the East County Courthouse will be designated Veterans Plaza Parkway.

'Put some elbow grease into it, sis'
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers SCRUBBING UP—Twelve-year-old Evan Parrish, a member of Boy Scout Troop 622, and his sister Amber, 7, work together last Saturday at a carwash and Ewaste collection fundraiser. Scouts from Troop 622, ranging in age from 11 to 16, along with family and friends, were on hand to wash and dry cars throughout the morning and afternoon. The troop also organized an E-waste drop-off where the community could dispose of old electronics.

Dems present political film
      The Simi Valley-Moorpark Democratic Club will show the movie "Bob Roberts" at 7 p.m. Wed., Nov. 19 at the Simi Valley Library community room, 2969 Tapo Canyon Road. Tree planted for victim of dog attack
      On what would have been her 6th birthday, Katya Todesco's classmates sat circled around a tree, holding hands, remembering her short life. Katya, a first-grader at Simi Valley's Crestview Elementary School, died Sept. 26 after being attacked by a neighbor's dog.

Residents needed to provide bond oversight
Committee will help monitor progress
      The Simi Valley Unified School District Board of Education is seeking volunteers to serve on the Bond Oversight Committee that will review bond expenditures. The community passed a general obligation bond on March 2, 2004, which raises $145 million for the repair and upgrade of school facilities.
