Highlander coaching legend extends a helping hand

      When seeking volleyball advice, Heidi Buonauro doesn't have to look far. Buonauro, the girls' head varsity coach at Royal High since 2003, entered this season pregnant with her second child and needed someone to help guide the Highlanders.

Double Nickels: These guys are money
     PAY DAY—Double Nickels, an adult softball team with members from Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Moorpark and Camarillo, won the senior men's 55AAA division at the prestigious Las Vegas World Masters Tournament. Sign-ups for Simi Valley Girls Softball underway
      Simi Valley Girls Softball has announced the opening of registration for the spring 2009 recreation ball season. SVGS is a nonprofit organization that provides fast pitch softball games and instruction to approximately 500 girls ages 4 to 16.

Simi Valley girls victorious at Ventura County Cross Country Championships
Liberty Miller finishes second overall
      The Ventura County Cross Country Championships were held last Friday at Lake Casitas in Ojai, and no schools ran faster than the Thousand Oaks High boys' squad and the Simi Valley girls' team. The Thousand Oaks boys' finished in first place with 82 points, ahead of Royal, which placed second with 95 points.

SVHS faces must-win situation on gridiron

Tonight at 7 p.m., SVHS hosts Newbury Park in a game with major playoff implications. At 2-6 overall and 2-3 in Marmonte League play, the Pioneers must beat Newbury Park (6-2, 3-2 in league) to keep their playoff aspirations alive. Simi Valley plays crosstown rival Royal on Nov. 14.
