Church organizes benefit concert for Simi family
Sara Hirschy A benefit concert to support a Simi Valley family will take place form 3 to 8 p.m. Sat., Nov. 8 at Simi Covenant Church, 4680 Alamo St., Simi Valley.
The proceeds will go directly to the Hirschy-Maas family.
Sara Hirschy has been an active physical therapist in the community for the last 10 years. She developed breast cancer in 2005, which turned into brain cancer last year.
The cancer advanced to her spinal cord and as a result, Hirschy is a paraplegic.
She is at home under hospice care and is in need of financial assistance to cover medical expenses.
Hirschy's son Jared, a senior at Royal High School, will perform at the concert. Her daughter Kylie, a student at Hillside Middle School, will serve as master of ceremonies.
The co-host for the event is Jason Dolley who starred in the Disney Channel's movie "Minutemen" and television series "Cory in the House."
The line-up of youth bands has Amber Skyline, Fat Beagle, Minor Problem, The Oasis Band and Simi Presbyterian Youth Praise and Worship.
The headliner for the concert is Rusted Metal, composed of members from Monocle Road and Third Gear.
Members are Jon Seghi on bass, Janet Seghi on vocals, "Mighty" on guitar and vocals, and Charles Southcott on percussion. Rusted Metal is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m.
Time slots are available for local youth (junior/senior high school) bands interested in performing.
Each band will have the opportunity to perform a minimum of three songs, one of which must be spiritually based.
During the concert, Simi Covenant's junior and senior high youth groups will be selling snacks, drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs.
